Weck jars ... old-world charm and practicality in the kitchen

So … I was looking at the wide selection of canning jars in Lorraine’s kitchen the other day and said to myself … “Self? I wonder who the heck discovered this method of preserving food.”

I did some research and found out exactly who did the fabulous deed!

German Chemist, Dr. Rudolf Rempel conducted experiment after experiment and finally discovered the perfect method of preserving the goodness of his garden vegetables and orchard fruits. Dr. Rempel patented his invention in 1892, and upon his untimely death in 1893, his patent rights were sold to Johannes Weck and Georg van Ecke.

With the patent and exclusive sales rights to Dr. Remple's invention in their pocket, Weck and van Ecke founded The WECK Company in 1900, and went on to successfully establish their business as an international supplier of canning jars.

WECK Jars are still available today ... and even in Canada by mail order through www.weckcanada.ca - check out their Facebook page - WECK Jars Canada

What local products will you be canning this year?
