The Regional District of Nanaimo is developing a Community Parks and Trails Strategy (CPTS) for Electoral Area G. Community parks and trails are different than Regional parks and trails. Community parks and trails primarily serve the local neighborhood and community residents while the Regional parks and trails serve residents from the entire region and beyond. Also, community parks and trails are realized largely through new development and are paid for through local taxes in each Electoral Area.
When completed in September 2013, the CPTS will provide specific direction regarding the acquisition/protection and development of these local parks and trails. This information will assist us in capital planning, grant applications and when reviewing development applications.
The purpose of this Open House is to seek community input on preliminary plans that identify opportunities for park and trail expansion at the neighborhood level. We hope that you are able to drop in to view the plans and share your ideas with Park staff. If you are part of a community group that would be interested in this event, it would be appreciated if you could pass this information on.
