Filmmaker Thorsten Boehnke and marine ecologist Laura Winter are showing their film "Hitchhiking across the Atlantic." They will give a short introduction before the film and answer questions and share pictures, film clips and stories after the film.
In "Hitchhiking across the Atlantic", Thorsten sails from Germany, via the Canary and Cape Verde Islands, to the Caribbean - albeit without his own boat. Along the way, he marvels at pilot whales floating calmly below the water surface, accompanies the nesting process of endangered loggerhead sea turtles and is fascinated by lizards “dancing” in the heat of Teide National Park. Thorsten survives the first offshore passage across the Bay of Biscay and deals with squalls, ripped sails and snapped halyards on the way from the Cape Verdes to Barbados.
