Knox Presents the Fergus O'Byrne Organ Fund-Raising Concert
Knox United Church is pleased to present: Fergus O’Byrne, an Irish-Newfoundland folk musician (of Ryan’s Fancy fame) in concert. This event will be like a Newfoundland-style kitchen party with appetizers, live and silent auctions of top-notch items along with the feel of a traditional Newfoundland “screetching-in” opportunity for a lucky few!
It takes place at Knox United Church, 345 Pym St., Parksville, 250-248-3927, Friday March 3rd. Doors open at 6 pm for delicious Newfoundland-style appetizers and bidding on high quality silent auction items. The Concert starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $35, and are available at Knox and The Mulberry Bush Book Stores in both Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Funds raised will go towards the purchase of a new, high quality, digital organ at Knox.
Fergus is an Irish-Canadian folk musician, who will be travelling from east to west for this performance – bringing a little bit of “the Rock” to Vancouver Island. He is best known as a member of the popular Irish-Newfoundland band trio, Ryan's Fancy, and as a banjo, concertina and bodhrán player. His voice has been described as having “the size and strength of an oak barrel.” He will bring with him the feel of a traditional Newfoundland kitchen party for this event.
The concert is sponsored by the Knox Organ Project which is raising funds to purchase a new, high quality, digital organ at Knox. Jenny Vincent, a superb Canadian organist, recently moved to Parksville to become Knox’s music leader. In the last 6 months, she held 4 organ recitals, each time, playing to a full house at the St Marks Anglican Church in Qualicum Beach.
This indicates a great interest in the flexibility and diversity of this type of music in the Parksville-Qualicum Beach communities. Once the new organ is in place at Knox, we hope to organize a number of concerts and recitals, which will present music on the organ both alone and with other local instrumentalists, singers and choral groups. Also in the vision, is a summer organ festival bringing musicians from across Canada to the Oceanside Community.
Don't miss this exciting Irish-Newfoundland folk music concert to help raise funds to bring this new instrument to the Oceanside Community. Enjoy the Newfoundland-style appetizers, the fun of live and silent auctions and the rare chance to feel the experience of being “screetched-in” by Fergus himself.
