A Little About Us

Our company, EyesOnBC Publishing, is dedicated to promoting and celebrating people living and doing business in the smaller, growing communities of central Vancouver Island through its magazine, The Beacon.

We strive to publish high-quality editorial content that:

  • acknowledges the connectedness of community
  • encourages positive discussion and debate about future growth and development
  • honours the diversity of opinion and peoples
  • celebrates individual and collective contributions to our past and future development
  • presents a balanced view of issues that impact our communities
  • chronicles and preserves our legacy for future generations

How It All Started

EyesOnBC Publishing's flagship publication, The Beacon, hit the streets in May of 2004 after only three weeks of brainstorming and production. Starting out as an 8-page newsletter, simply photocopied and folded by hand by co-publishers Linda Tenney and Sharon Waugh, The Beacon grew to become a 56-page monthly magazine that celebrated it's 5th year anniversary in 2009.

Production quickly jumped from The Beacon's first printing of 500 copies in 2004 to its current distribution of 8,000, covering the communities of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Qualicum Bay, Bowser, Deep Bay and Fanny Bay.
